I understand it was 30 years old, but still. Composite one would not corrode. And a composite one becomes part of the structure, not along for the ride.

I only used SS. A few years back some cruisers were swearing by titanium (from titanium.com). The trick was not to tell them it was for a boat because the price would jack up by a magnitude of 3 to 5. Again this is second hand info!
