Faamu Sami Pic

Have fallen behind here. Too many deadlines. However. Faamu was noted by Ira Heller “”I sailed on Faamu Sami, a custom Kurt Hughes 46′ tri, this past weekend and there’s no wire in the standing rigging. BTW, the race was from Falmouth, ME to Yarm

outh, NS, 180 mi. We set a course record, lowering the time from 18 hrs 35 min to 12 hrs 20 min. It was a blast!” And I got this great pic too. It’s a twofer as it has Rolling Stones T shirt in it too. (50 years and all)

Won’t Swiftsure be fun now? 13 knots to windward and oven baked dinner.

  1. I drove this boat on the Yarmouth Cup record run back in ’01. Man we had a blast, averaged 15 knots for 12 hours and had a guy along who was freaked out the entire race about how fast the boat was. Would love to sail her again… Mike, you have a great new ride.

  2. Guys, I bought Fa’amu Sami a couple of weeks ago. Terrific tri for me, and a boat I have been searching for, for several years. I’ll keep her like she is, but clean her up, with Kurt Hughes, reshaping the amas…more a wave-piecing design. She’ll be a spartan racer-cruiser.

  4. Hi Kurt,
I note that Faamu is for sale – what a stunning boat! I am looking at rope shrouds to replace my ageing SS 1x19s and I see that Faamu has Dyneema SK75 holding the mast up. (I have 43′ tri you helped w the lifting rudder design). Would you care to comment on this? In the early days Erik Precourt was using Amsteel Blue but now he has gone, and other people are recommending that we use Dynex Dux or Marlow D12 Max – both dyneema but heat treated and pre-stretched….using SK75 would be great (I already use it for all running rigging and runners) because it is half the price of the heat treated dyneema (like Dux/D12 max).
I would be interested to read your thoughts on this
    thanks

  5. This is a great example of one of your tri’s, Kurt. Saw she was for sale and if I wasn’t doing charters for a living, this would have been my ideal personal boat.
