Paul started with the KHSD 45 cruising cat plans, but wanted some changes. I did a composite bow tube design for him.
I don’t recall being told it would be forward cockpit. The helm is indoors, which is always good.
Back to it’s first home after a lap around the world.
Nice note from the new owner, Paul.

When Kurt Hughes designed this boat he really got it right. Tacking strongly into big Western Australia seas and wind. We are comfy and dry and pointing high biggest problem is trying to slow down. Thanks Kurt”
I’m finally able to start updating the very successful 45 cruising cat plans. Some of the recent performance cruising cats that I have seen look like they intend that looking good is more important than being usable.
It will still have full headroom, excellent shorthanding ability and cruising usability.
It does have a hotter sail plan keeping with trending now.
The plans are available at the old price until the study plan set of the update is available.
One of my USCG certified cat customers, Charly, takes his boat out cruising. A lot. 36 x 24 feet. http://charlysboat.com/ for the tours. And http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/boat-building/kurt-hughes-daycharter-36-a-31846.html for its story.
Alex took Salty Cat out for a cruise to Sucia Island. “There was no dock space available and the mooring buoys were all taken so we had to anchor. We did this at the shallow head of the bay, much to the envy of the deeper draft sailboats.” Recall Salty Cat is a 45′ foam/glass cat with an unstayed Aeroesque mast.

42′ cat often seen here. At SLO.
This picture on LectricLatitude also, is so cruising. It says it all. In case anyone missed it, I designed his cat a couple of decades or so ago. He has used it mercilessly since then. http://www.latitude38.com/lectronic/lectronicday.lasso?date=2013-09-04#Story5
Calvin H. Markwood’s 5th Edition “Analysis and Comparison of Cruising Multihulls 2013” is available as a free read at this link. (OK as of Feb. 17th this link does not work. I will leave here and maybe will be fixed soon.)

When I tried to look at it I see that I’m required to log in. The email line does not allow copy and past so you have to type.
Then I came up with password. I was disallowed in because my name was invalid, although I was never prompted for a name. You might think it was Bill Gates’ Paypal account.
If I recall correctly, my designs compare as under canvassed as I only count the blade and not genoas. Many other designs count the genoa area. I thought it was this group who
did not discriminate between jibs, but I was not allowed to look and see for sure.
