Profligate Flying
Invictius Went On the Rocks
At lunch with the guys at CSR I learned that Invictius went on the rocks up near Everett. It did make it ashore and is being repaired. I saw a picture of a giant shark bite out of the keel area of one of the amas. Larry was not driving. A Mr. Southerland owns it and gave it a snappy paint job.
Crewing on Invictus was a kind of rite of passage for many in the PNW. Larry designed and built it and has been racing it since the 60s.
I will get more details and pics of the repair.

Dragonfly Bound for Fiji
Its the first KHSD Dragonfly. 60′ in foam/glass. Cruising the Pacific.
A note from yesterday. “Back in SavuSavu after a 500 mile out and back to Futuna to restart our clearance into Fiji. Good sailing both directions and great hospitality in Futuna.
Futuna is a department of France and many of the men were wearing their flowered leis. ”
31′ SD 31 Tri with Rigid Beams
I can’t believe that I have not posted this anywhere before , but all my searches here have not turned up anything on it.
31′ by 28′ wide. Plywood carbon beams. Can be built demountable. The set is almost done. CM plywood/epoxy for rapid building.
Sierra Cloud Haulout
Beginning the new 79′ Sierra Cloud design. Got a great picture of the original one at winter haul out. 27 years of service. CM developed plywood construction. 55 feet.
Seatrials Uganda
The second KHSD 65′ Ferry in Boxes is doing seatrials now on Lake Victoria. I saw some great assembly lakeside pictures that I will put together in the future.
Dragonfly Rolled (the Seattle one)
The local Seattle formula 40 catamaran Dragonfly capsized during the Cow Bay Regatta. Not my design. It was originally from New Zealand and was originally named Simply the Best. It’s owner Pat is one of the best sailors I know. I hope to find out more soon, but I was told that it rolled over on a reach after stuffing into a kelp bed. It was a heavy air day. If it could happen to Pat, it could happen to anyone. I see the boat is on the hard in Everett, sans mast. Pic is on happier days.
New 65′ Ferry in Goa
One of my 65′ passenger ferries has been launched in Goa, India.

Zeevonk Update
I recently heard from Zeevonk’s new owner. Recall that Zeevonk spent some 15 years doing naturist tours in the Carribbean.
I understand that much of what made her perform well will be removed and replaced with more elderly solutions. It will have vertical windows, swing boards instead of vertical, self tacking jib and main track on top of the sunshade. I’m sure that I have spoken at length about all these vices and do not need to repeat myself.

Recall that Greg Lynn 3D printed many of his boat parts. You can do the same without buying a 3D printer by using a shop like Metrix.
